Buyer's guide · 2026
Free interactive demo tools — what each free plan actually allows.
Every free plan in the interactive demo category side by side: how many demos, which capture, whether analytics are included, and what the watermark looks like. Plus the open-source libraries, and when 'free' stops being free.

How this guide is made
Published plans, documented features, linked sources — not a hands-on test
Every price is read from the vendor's public pricing page on August 24, 2026 and recalculated per year on annual billing. Capture methods and plan features come from the same pages; complaints are quoted from named reviews and interviews with a link. We have not run the same demo through every tool and do not claim to. We make Tellane, it is listed under the same rules as the others, and its “not for” list is as long as anyone's.
Six interactive demo tools have a free plan; three (Walnut, Demostack, Reprise, and Consensus) do not. The free plans differ more than the paid ones: one demo versus five, HTML versus screenshots, analytics versus none, watermark versus badge. This page lists each as the vendor publishes it, then the open-source alternatives for teams with engineering time.

The questions that decide it
How many demos do you need live at once?
One → any free plan. More → Supademo or Guideflow (five), or a paid plan.
Do you need to measure it?
Arcade's free plan has no analytics. Tellane and Guideflow keep seven days; Storylane, Navattic, and Supademo have basic analytics.
Is a watermark acceptable?
Arcade and Guideflow watermark; Tellane shows a small 'Made with Tellane' badge; Storylane and Navattic use default branding. Paid plans remove all of these.
Open source instead?
Shepherd and driver.js (MIT) and intro.js (AGPL with a commercial licence) are open-source libraries for in-app tours inside your own product. They do not capture screens or publish a shareable demo; if you need a link for prospects, you need a capture tool.
Run it yourself
How to evaluate in an afternoon
Free plans are the one part of this category you can evaluate completely, because nothing is behind a sales call. The afternoon checklist:
- Write your eight-stop script once.
- Sign up for the three free plans whose limits fit (demos allowed, analytics, watermark) — no cards needed.
- Capture the same script in each and publish.
- Compare the published players side by side on desktop and phone, badge and watermark included — that is exactly what a buyer sees on the free tier.
- Drive each demo twice, then open the analytics and see what was recorded.
- Note the first feature you needed that was paid — that tells you which upgrade you would actually buy.
