Capturing screens

Guide 02 of 10 · 6 min read

Every captured screen becomes a stop at the end of the lane. A lane holds up to 80 screens; PNG, JPEG, WebP, and GIF up to 10 MB each.

Chrome extension

Install it from the extension page and sign in to Tellane in the same browser profile. Then, in your product:

  1. Open the extension popup, pick the workspace and lane, press Start.
  2. Click through your product as a buyer would. Each click screenshots the visible tab about half a second later — after the UI has reacted — and uploads it.
  3. Press Alt+Shift+S to capture a screen without clicking anything.
  4. Press Stop when you're done. The capture page in Tellane shows screens arriving live, so keep it open in another tab.

The extension can't capture browser-internal pages (chrome://) or the Tellane app itself.

Screenshots

On the capture page choose Screenshots and drop files or pick them. Up to 30 per upload; label each one before or after. They land in the order you picked them.

Screen recording

Choose Recording, pick a video, and choose an interval — every 2, 3, 5, or 10 seconds, up to 40 frames. The slicing happens in your browser, nothing is uploaded until you drop the frames you don't want and press Add.

Getting clean captures

  • Use one window size for the whole lane; the player letterboxes a stray aspect ratio, but it looks better when they match.
  • Capture a demo account with believable data — buyers notice “Test Customer 3”.
  • Close notifications, chat widgets, and anything with your real customers' names in it. Screens are public once the lane is.
  • Capture one idea per screen. If a step needs two clicks, capture both.

Relabel or delete screens on the capture page any time; deleting a screen deletes its stop.
