Product walkthrough.

A product walkthrough is a sequential demonstration of how to accomplish something in a product — one task, start to finish — as opposed to an overview of features.

Walkthroughs are task-shaped: 'create a pipeline', 'invite a teammate', 'export a report'. They appear in onboarding, in help centres, and increasingly on marketing sites, where a walkthrough of the one workflow a buyer cares about converts better than a feature tour.

A walkthrough can be a video, a written step-by-step guide with screenshots, or an interactive demo. The interactive form has the advantage that the viewer does the steps rather than watching them, which is closer to the experience of using the product.

In Tellane: A lane built around one task — six to ten stops, one outcome — is a walkthrough. Branching lets one lane hold several. See how →
