How to record a product demo.
Recording setup that avoids re-takes, a script that keeps it under two minutes, and how to slice the recording into an interactive demo afterwards.

The short answer. Write the steps first, set one window size, use a demo account with real-looking data, record in one take at 1080p or better with the cursor visible, and keep it under two minutes. If you want buyers to click instead of watch, slice the recording into frames and annotate them — a recording is a good source for an interactive demo.
Before you press record
- Write the six to ten steps as a list; you will read it, not improvise.
- One browser window, fixed size, 1920×1080 or 1440×900. Hide bookmarks, extensions, notifications.
- A demo account with plausible names and numbers — buyers read the data.
- Close Slack, email, and anything that can pop up.
Recording
- Any screen recorder: the OS recorder, Loom, OBS, Screen Studio. 30 fps is enough; cursor visible.
- Move slowly; pause a beat on the result screen so the viewer registers it.
- If you narrate, say what the buyer gets before you click. If you do not, write captions later.
- One take. If you fumble, keep going — you can cut — but do not restart ten times.
Turning the recording into an interactive demo
An interactive demo tool can slice the video into frames at an interval you choose (every two or three seconds is typical), let you drop the frames you do not need, and turn each kept frame into a stop with a hotspot and a tooltip. The recording becomes a click-through the buyer drives, with analytics per step. Tellane does this in the browser on the capture page; no upload until you choose the frames.
Length
Under two minutes for a video; six to ten stops for the interactive version. If the recording runs five minutes, the script has too many steps, not the recording too little editing.
