How long should a product demo be?

Length by format and placement — website, pricing page, outbound, onboarding, live call — with the reasoning, and how to tell from your own funnel whether yours is too long.

The short answer. For an interactive demo on a website or in outbound, six to ten stops — a two-minute drive. For a pricing page or a feature launch, three to six. For onboarding, as long as the first workflow takes, usually eight to twelve. For a video, under two minutes. For a live call, as long as the buyer's questions, which is why it is live. Your own funnel tells you when it is too long: a slow, even decline across every stop is fatigue, not a broken step.

By placement

  • Homepage or product page: 6–10 stops. The buyer has not committed; earn the next click each time.
  • Pricing page: 3–6 stops per plan or feature. Answer 'what does this tier do' and send them to the plan.
  • Outbound link: 6–8 stops. They are reading email; make the point and stop.
  • Feature launch: 3–6 stops. One feature, one outcome.
  • Onboarding: the first workflow, 8–12 stops. Completion will be lower and that is fine.
  • Sales leave-behind: the 4–6 screens discussed on the call.

Why short wins on the web

Every stop is a decision to continue. A demo that asks for twelve decisions before showing the result loses most people before the result. Putting the 'aha' screen in the first half and the call to action at the end of a short lane keeps the decisions few and the payoff early.

Reading your own funnel

A sharp drop at one stop is that stop's problem. A slow, even slope — 100, 90, 81, 73, 65 — is length. Cut to the screens that sell and move the rest to a second lane linked from the last stop.
